Your Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is one of the most important identity documents in Pakistan. It is used for many services, including banking, mobile SIM registration, government services and identity verification.
If you are unsure whether your CNIC is still valid, checking its expiry date is important. An expired identity card can create problems with services that require valid identity verification.
NADRA has also reminded citizens that keeping identity documents valid and renewing them on time is the responsibility of the cardholder. NADRA
Where Can You Find Your CNIC Expiry Date?
The simplest way to check your CNIC expiry date is to look at the expiry date printed on your identity card.
Your CNIC contains important information about your identity and validity. NADRA states that CNICs are issued for a specified validity period.
For adult CNICs, the standard validity period is generally 10 years, although special validity rules can apply in certain circumstances. NADRA+1
If you have your card with you, there is normally no need to use a third-party website just to find the expiry date.
Can You Check CNIC Expiry Date Online?
There is an important distinction here.
NADRA provides online identity services through its official PakID mobile application and NADRA website, including applications for CNIC renewal, updates and tracking. NADRA+1
However, users should be careful with websites claiming to offer a public “CNIC expiry date checker” that asks for your complete CNIC number and other personal information.
NADRA specifically says that its official website operates under the nadra.gov.pk domain and warns citizens to verify the domain before providing personal information or making payments. NADRA

How to Check Your CNIC Expiry Date
Method 1: Check the Physical CNIC
If you have your original CNIC or Smart CNIC, this is the easiest method.
Step 1: Take your CNIC
Keep your current identity card with you.
Step 2: Look for the expiry information
Check the card for the date of expiry/validity printed on it.
Step 3: Compare the date with today’s date
If the expiry date has already passed, your CNIC needs to be renewed.
If the expiry date is approaching, it is better to start the renewal process before you face problems with services requiring valid identification.
Method 2: Use NADRA’s PakID App
NADRA’s PakID is its official mobile application for identity-related services.
According to NADRA, the app can be used for applications involving CNIC services, including renewal, modification and tracking. NADRA+1

What Should You Do If Your CNIC Has Expired?
If your CNIC has expired, you should apply for renewal rather than continue relying on an expired card.
NADRA’s April 2026 guidance specifically advised citizens to renew their identity documents on time. It noted that expired identity documents can affect services linked to identity verification, including bank accounts, mobile SIMs and some government or welfare services. NADRA
An expired CNIC may also cause difficulties with transactions or services that require valid identity verification.

How Long Is a CNIC Valid?
NADRA’s published services information states that an adult CNIC, Smart CNIC and NICOP generally have a 10-year validity period, subject to the applicable rules. NADRA
NADRA’s Services Charter also explains that an identity card can have lifetime validity in certain cases involving citizens aged 53 or above at the time of renewal or modification. NADRA
Therefore, the actual expiry information printed on your card should be treated as the most relevant date for your particular document.
Why Should You Renew Your CNIC Before It Expires?
Keeping your CNIC valid can help avoid unnecessary problems with identity-based services.
NADRA has specifically warned that an expired identity document can affect access to services such as:
- Bank account-related services
- Mobile SIM-related verification
- Government services
- Welfare programmes
- Subsidy schemes
- Property transactions
- Vehicle transfers
For this reason, it is better not to wait until the last moment if your CNIC is close to expiry.
Beware of Fake CNIC Checking Websites
CNIC information is sensitive, so you should be extremely careful when searching for online identity services.
Avoid websites that:
- Ask for your CNIC without clearly identifying themselves
- Request your fingerprint or biometric information
- Ask for OTPs
- Promise access to private CNIC information
- Ask for unnecessary payments
- Claim to provide other people’s identity information
NADRA says its official website is available under the nadra.gov.pk domain and advises users to verify the domain before entering personal information. NADRA
Never share your CNIC, OTP or biometric information with an unknown person or website.
What If You Lost Your CNIC?
If your CNIC has been lost or stolen, you should use NADRA’s official services for a reprint/lost card rather than using an unofficial website.
